The Mdina Cathedral Contemporary Art Biennale presents a concert with British composer and pianist Tom Armitage.
After studying at Birmingham Conservatoire and the University of Malta, British composer and pianist Tom Armitage has been heavily involved on the new music scene throughout Europe.
He has given over a hundred world premieres of new works and has written for some of the most exciting musicians and ensembles around the globe. Having broadcast for the BBC and performed with ensembles such as the Birmingham Conservatoire Symphony Orchestra, Thallein Ensemble and Zfin Malta National Dance Company, Tom has also released albums of contemporary piano music and has had works performed by Orchestra of the Swan at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre; Birmingham Contemporary Music Group; CHROMA; the Schubert Ensemble; composer/pianist, Michael Finnissy; violin virtuoso, David le Page; Decibel and soprano, Mary Wiegold amongst many others, and has also had piano music published by World Humanities Press in Hong Kong.
He is currently working on productions for Teatru Manoel Youth Opera with Valletta International Baroque Ensemble and Teatru Manoel Opera with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra.
His first opera will also be performed as part of the UK City of Culture 2017 festivities in Hull, England. Tom will be performing his piano piece March 16th 1244 at the Mdina Biennale 2015 - a piece, exploring the atrocities committed against the Cathar heresy in Medieval Occitania and destroying the rich cultural and spiritual heritage in the region.
