In this distinctly Roman-themed concert, the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra sets the scene with Berlioz's Le Carnaval Romain overture before being joined by the brilliant young pianist Dmitry Ishkhanov for a performance of Kabalevsky's Third Piano Concerto.
Inspired by the heroic gladiator who led the slave uprising against the Roman Republic, Khachaturian's Spartacus Suite has also been featured in many movie scores.
Respighi's Pines of Rome is a symphonic poem which vividly depicts pine trees in four different locations across Rome, including at the Villa Borghese gardens and along the Appian Way.
