In collaboration with the Għajnsielem Local Council, Għaqda Drammatika Għajnsielem is organizing various activities throughout the Lent period. A traditional and a modern “Way of the Cross” has been inaugurated at Ta' Passi fields, where the “Bethlehem f’ Għajnsielem” activity is usually held. This innovative initiative will provide the public with the opportunity to mediate the Way of the Cross throughout the Lent period. Local schools, local councils and other community groups are encouraged to organise group meditations. A 50 feet provisional cross structure has also been constructed at ta Passi fields which can be viewed from many locations.
This will be lit up every day from Ash Wednesday, 6th March 2019 until Easter Sunday, 21st April 2019. Both the Way of the Cross and the Cross have been constructed from recycled materials such as wooden pallets.
On Sunday 14th April 2019 (Palm Sunday), Ta' Passi fields will be transformed into a village reflecting the time of Jesus’ passion consisting of various biblical characters from 2.30pm onwards. There will also be a performance entitled “The Passion: Then and Now” at 6pm which will commence with a live reenactment of The Lord’s Supper at 4pm. A repeat performance of the Passion of the Christ will also be held on 19th April 2019 (Good Friday) at 10.30am. Entrance for these activities is free.
Għaqda Drammatika Għajnsielem is also organizing a live reenactment of The Lord’s Supper. This will also take place at Ta' Passi fields. Actors will portray Jesus sharing his final meal with his Apostles before his crucifixion. This activity will take place at Ta' Passi fields where the atmosphere and the natural surroundings including the animals, will take visitors back in time to experience The Last Supper. There will also be a live kitchen where traditional Passover food will be prepared. This activity will take place on Holy (Maundy) Thursday evening, 18th April 2019, from 8.30pm until 11.30pm and the following morning, Good Friday, 19th April 2019, from 9.00am until 10.30am.
Another activity that Għaqda Drammatika Għajnsielem organizes every year is the procession of Our Lady of Sorrows where around 100 personages dressed as biblical characters take part. The procession will leave the Għajnsielem Parish church at 6.30pm on 12th April 2019 and will continue throughout the various village streets.
Għaqda Drammatika Għajnsielem was established in 1987 with the principal aim of producing quality productions and activities mainly connected with the Holy Week.
